Dual Master's Degree in Urban policy with the London School of Economics (lse)
Two-Year Dual-Degree
Programme in French and English
France & United Kingdom
Training in territorial governance with a dual perspective
This high-level and selective program, which is multidisciplinary and bilingual* (French and English), combines in-depth reflection on the political, economic, and social challenges of action within territories with courses focused on the development of specialized skills: local development, urban planning, project development and management, diagnostic methodology, and program development, among others.
*Students for whom French and/or English is not a native language may need to improve their level in one or both languages.
Program objectives and structure
This programme is designed to train students for strategic and operational careers in urban policy and planning, with a strong European and international perspective of these fields. Students spend:
- Year 1 in Paris in the Regional and Urban Strategy programme at Sciences Po
The first semester and second semester courses are the same as for students of the Regional and Urban Strategy Master's programme, with a few specificities:
Students enrolled in the double degree program attend all the courses scheduled for semester 1 and semester 2 as part of the master's program. They also take part in collective projects and the study trip in France or Europe.
- Year 2 in London in the Urban Policy Master's programme at the London School of Economics
Students study for three semesters at the LSE:
- two semesters of courses chosen from the MSc in Local Economic Development, the MSc in Regional and Urban Planning studies, and the MSc in Urbanisation and Development.
- the summer period is given over to the 10,000 word dissertation on a subject chosen during the academic year.
Validation and degree
Students are registered for two full years at both universities and have access to the student services of both Sciences Po and LSE. Students must validate their course work under the requirements of the university at which they are studying.
- 60 ECTS credits during the year at Sciences Po
- a 4-unit course, including a 10,000 word dissertation at LSE.
To earn the dual degree, students must validate the two years of study in both universities.
Testimonial
Alix Cocude, 1st year Master's student
"Having grown up abroad and with ambitions for an international career, I chose the dual degree to learn about the challenges of urban and regional policy in France and, as LSE is an internationally renowned university, to build my international perspective and prospects. This dual degree is very rewarding as we get to confront different approaches to urban issues, and gain a critical, cross-cutting perspective on the challenges facing the urban world of tomorrow."
