Student Experience: 2 Days at the Paris Peace Forum 2023

We followed three Sciences Po students during the first day of the 2023 Forum: Fary, Srijon and Zsofia. Watch their experience.

Arancha Gonzalez: 2023 is more important than ever because we are living in a moment of growing fragmentation.

Sciences Po is one of the founding member of the Paris Peace Forum, the annual event first launched in 2018 gathering world leaders, international organisations, businesses, activists and journalists to promote collective action on today’s most pressing global issues. The sixth edition of the Paris Peace Forum took place at the Palais Brongniart in Paris on 10 and 11 November 2023.

Over the two days, this year’s Forum focused on “Seeking Common Ground in a World of Rivalry”. Through panels of discussions, roundtables and projects’ exhibitions, speakers and attendees shared their analysis, perspectives and initiatives contributing to fostering world peace through more cooperation.

Arancha González, Dean of the Paris School of International Affairs (PSIA), attended the forum as a guest speaker, sharing her insights and calling for the necessity of “spaces for international cooperation” as a key approach to finding solutions to our world issues.

The Paris School of International Affairs was also proudly represented by its students volunteers. Every year since the first edition in 2018, PSIA students are selected to attend the event in one of the 11 different volunteer roles, from Greeters to Note Takers. Through their participation, PSIA students allow for a successful event while mixing with the hundreds of world leaders in attendance.

The Paris Peace Forum has become a staple of the PSIA learning experience and is highly expected by our student community, as demonstrated by the close to 400 students applying to a volunteer position. 218 PSIA students from all 7 masters were ultimately selected, over twice as many as in the first edition in 2018.

Watch the experience of 3 of them during the Forum: Zsofia Bekker, from the Master in Environmental Policy, Fary Gueye, a student from the Master in International Development and a Mastercard Foundation Scholar, and Srijon Sinha, from the Master in Human Rights and Humanitarian Action.
