Survey data: Public Attitudes towards Nuclear Weapons Policies in France and the UK

The data presented here are part of a study conducted by the Nuclear Knowledges team and IFOP between 7 and 18 October 2024. The survey involved 1000 people in France and 1001 in the UK. The samples were representative for the adult population of these countries. For more information on methodology, please consult this explanation by IFOP (in French).

In order to protect the country, the government has the right to make decisions about the use of nuclear weapons without consulting the citizens.

I support the use of the taxes I pay to fund the maintenance of the country’s nuclear weapons even if it means less money for other policies.

It is acceptable for this country’s residents to be targets of a nuclear attack from other countries since this is part of a national nuclear deterrence policy.

The risk of being victim of an accidental nuclear weapon explosion in the country where I live is acceptable if having nuclear weapons protects the country from attacks and invasions.
