Undergraduate Admissions for applicants from foreign secondary schools: CV/resume guidelines

Here are some recommendations for submitting a CV/resume as part of your international undergraduate application.

Essential elements

  • Your full name (incl. preferred name if applicable) 
  • Outline all schools you attended since Year 7 (including exchange years):
    • with dates (months + years) + a note for which school year (Years 1-12 or 13);
    • and location (country, if applicable state, city).
  • Outline work experience you might have acquired, including:
    • Dates outlining beginning and end of work experience + average hours/week;
    • Type of job experience (internship, apprenticeship, fixed employment);
    • Responsibilities (and results, if applicable);
    • NB : There is no need to self-censor yourself if you feel a job might have been less relevant to your field of study (e.g., part-time student job in a café) - all job experience helps to have a more complete picture of your commitments + responsibilities.
  • Outline volunteering experience you might have acquired, including:
    • dates that make it clear how many days/weeks/months/years you participated in this activity + for how many hours a week (on average);
    • Responsibilities and results.
  • Extracurricular activities you may have engaged in (if any):
    • dates that make it clear how many days/weeks/months/years you participated in this activity + for how many hours a week (on average);
    • Particular achievements, if any.
  • Language skills

Format

  • Make sure your CV is written in English or French and proofread before handing it in
  • Make it is legible and tidy (no font or font size requirements so long as it remains professional)
  • Your CV has to be submitted as a PDF in A4 format
  • Recommended length: 1-2 pages (and no longer than 3)

Optional

  • Address & contact information
  • Photo (if you opt for adding one, make sure it is appropriate for an academic context)
  • Academic achievements, prizes or merit-based scholarships (if applicable) or summer schools
  • Hobbies (sports, music…).

Don'ts

  • Please do not add elements that do not belong in a CV/resume, such as another letter of motivation, photos of various certificates, photos of yourself with board members or celebrities, photos of your pets, emojis, etc.

Fees & Financial Aid

Limited financial resources are not a barrier to receiving a Sciences Po education.
