Old age

Old age is a challenge facing every individual and every society.

Rising life expectancy and falling birth rates are changing the demographic structure of many countries, presenting major challenges and opportunities. What are the consequences for political life and voting behaviour, as well as for public policies on retirement and health? How can we prevent the isolation of the elderly and maintain their inclusion in society? How can we address the issue of employment for older people and the opportunities offered by the silver economy? How has the place of the elderly in our societies evolved, between respect and marginalisation? How does the law deal with the issue of vulnerability? From a cultural point of view, the way we look at things is changing: while some people see old age as a ‘shipwreck’, others see it as a collective adventure, a shared destiny.

To help you better understand this multi-faceted phenomenon, we have put together a selection of books, articles, reports, archive documents, podcasts, films, documentaries, novels, etc., for you to borrow or consult in our libraries and on our various websites:
