Undertaking a survey with the ELIPSS panel
Backed by more than 10 years of experience, CDSP offers any individual or organisation involved in social science research the opportunity to conduct an online survey with the ELIPSS panel.
The ELIPSS Panel
The Longitudinal Online Social Science Survey (ELIPSS) is a panel established by Sciences Po’s Centre for Sociopolitical Data (CDSP) in 2012 to study trends in behaviours, situations and opinions in French society. ELIPSS offers researchers the opportunity to conduct questionnaire-based surveys with a sample drawn randomly from the metropolitan French population aged 18 and above.
Who can use it?
The possibility of conducting a survey with ELIPSS is open to any individual or organisation involved in social science research. Proposals can take the form of a single module with a few questions or questionnaires that encompass an entire monthly survey (20 minutes or so) and can potentially be repeated over time.
What projects are supported?
Projects are assessed for their feasibility and suitability for the ELIPSS panel. This assessment is carried out by the ELIPSS team, with the participation of CDSP’s Scientific and Technical Council and additional external input if this is deemed necessary. In the assessment, the main factors taken into account are the scientific quality of the proposal, its methodological value and the match between the proposal and the characteristics of the ELIPSS panel.
In addition, project submissions must have a research purpose, must strictly exclude any commercial objective, and the data produced must be made available to interested communities as quickly as possible.
Finally, partner research teams are expected to contribute to the operation of the system on top of the support provided by CDSP’s sponsoring entities, which cover most of the costs.
Once the survey project has been accepted, the ELIPSS team assists the research teams in designing the questionnaire and matching it to the system, with particular reference to its longitudinal dimension. The ELIPSS team also takes charge of the different steps involved in the production of the survey: programming the questionnaire, some of the testing, data collection, monitoring the fieldwork and reminders, producing an exploitable data file.
As of June 2023, the panel consisted of more than 2600 members, with a participation rate in excess of 80%.
