What skills/strategy helped you to succeed at PSIA?
At PSIA, success depended on a combination of effective time management and teamwork skills. The rigorous academic environment, with its demanding schedule and multiple deadlines, required planning and prioritization. I developed a strategy of mapping out my work across the semester, distributing my academic workload across available days. This allowed me to maintain the quality of my assignments and a healthy study-life balance.
Teamwork was equally important. PSIA’s diverse student body provided the opportunity to engage with peers from various backgrounds through frequent group assignments. I learned to seek out different perspectives, which improved our team projects and discussions. By leveraging the different skills of each team member, we were able to produce work that exceeded what any of us could have achieved individually. Working alongside some of the brightest minds I have ever met pushed me to grow, both academically and personally.
What part of your PSIA experience do you think will be of greatest help in your career?
The practice-oriented teaching at PSIA will be the most valuable asset in my career as Environmental and UK Economist at Société Générale. Many of my professors were active practitioners in their fields, bringing real-world insights directly into the classroom. Rather than purely theoretical, their classes included projects that simulated real-world scenarios. This approach has equipped me with practical skills relevant to my professional role: practical problem-solving, insight into professional attitudes and approaches, and the ability to clearly communicate complex ideas.
What advice would you give to current and future PSIA students?
To current and future PSIA students, I would say: embrace the challenges at PSIA and think strategically about your course selection. PSIA's curriculum is full of opportunities, and it is crucial to balance your interests with your future career prospects.
Don't shy away from courses that seem challenging, such as econometrics. These tough classes often prove useful in your professional journey. They not only build your skills but also demonstrate your ability to tackle complex subjects.
Look for courses that align with the emerging trends in your field. This approach can give you a competitive edge, providing you with skills that will be increasingly in demand after graduation.
Lastly, engage as much as possible with your classmates and professors. PSIA's community is unique. The perspectives you will gain from these interactions will broaden your understanding, preparing you for the multifaceted, global aspects of your future.
