Coming from China, Yuwei Zhong has graduated Summa Cum Laude in International Security.
What skills/strategy helped you to succeed at PSIA?
I found that managing my time effectively and maintaining good stress resilience were crucial. This involved planning a daily schedule well (especially during mid-terms and finals), setting goals, and approaching each task with a positive attitude. Additionally, developing ways to cope with stress and stay “mentally healthy”, in my case, keeping a daily journal, exercising regularly, or enjoying bubble tea with friends, proved beneficial.
What part of your PSIA experience do you think will be of greatest help in your career?
I am grateful for the gap year possibility PSIA offered, as it allowed me more time to complete my master’s thesis and gain practical work experience. This helped me explore various career possibilities and clarified my future course. While in Geneva, the friendship within the local PSIA alumni community helped me build confidence and provided me with support. Additionally, I was able to observe and participate in multilateral diplomacy engagements within large international organizations, and to share my insights through research and writing, which was highly valuable for me.
What advice would you give to current and future PSIA students?
Be willing to share, travel often, and engage actively. Create as many memories as possible during your journey at PSIA, and let it remain a part of us.
