Democracy and Ecological Transformations

The project “Democracy and Ecological Transformations” is conducted by Matteo Mandelli at the CEE and coordinated by Charlotte Halpern at the Sciences Po Institute for environmental transformations. It is part of the Open Society Hub for Politics of the Anthropocene (OHPA), a broader research project based at the Department of International Relations of Central European University in Vienna, that includes Sciences Po in Paris and CEBRAP in São Paulo.

This project aims to deepen our understanding of the interconnections and tensions between ecology and democracy. Specifically, it focuses on mapping socio-environmental conflicts among European political parties and interest groups in the context of the European Green Deal, as well as assessing the impact of these conflicts on policy change.

The project is planned to last 22 months, from October 2024 to July 2026.
