Alfred Tovias

Professor Alfred Tovias is the Walter Rathenau Professor in European Economics and a former Chairman (2010-2012) at the Department of International Relations of the Hebrew University. He previously served as the Director of the Leonard Davis Institute for International Relations at the same University (2005-2010).
He holds the EU-sponsored Jean Monnet Chair on External Economic Relations of the EU, is the President of the Israeli Association for the Study of European Integration (IASEI), jointly with Dr Tal Sadeh and a member of the Steering Committee of the FEMISE (Forum Mediterraneen d'Instituts d'Etudes Economiques).
He has published several books and articles among others in The Journal of Common Market Studies, European Politics, Mediterranean Politics, Oxford Economic Papers, The World Economy and West European Politics. His field of expertise includes Euro-Mediterranean relations, economic Integration, trade Policy, international organization and international business in Mediterranean Europe, Israel and MENA countries where he has made major contributions. His most recent publication is a book, co-edited with Amy Verdun, published in November 2013 by Palgrave , titled "Mapping European Economic Integration".
Professor Tovias has worked with various international institutions such as Center for European Policy Studies, Catalan Institute for the Mediterranean (later known as IEMed), the World Bank, OECD, UNCTAD, and think tanks like Chatham House. He is an active participant in Israeli governmental committee meetings in which he plays a strategic consultation role.
