Eli Melby

Visiting PhD Candidate
Eli Melby is a PhD fellow at the Institute of Sociology, University of Bergen, Norway. She holds a master’s degree in sociology from the University of Oslo. Her master thesis, which focused on the role of identity in queer social movements in Morocco, was a part of the EU FP7-funded project POWER2YOUTH. She was awarded the University of Oslo Faculty of Social Sciences award for best master thesis in 2017. Eli Melby has previously worked as university lecturer at the Centre for Gender Research, University of Oslo, and she holds a bachelor’s degree in social sciences from the Université Paris Descartes.
Research interests
Social movements and contentious politics, collective identity construction, women’s political engagement, feminist theory, life history interviews
