Francesco Nardone
PhD Candidate
After his Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences at Leiden University in 2020, Francesco Nardone obtained a first research Master's degree in Political Science (majoring in Political Theory) at Sciences Po Paris in 2022 and a second research Master's degree in Sociology at EHESS in 2023. He is currently preparing a PhD thesis on the developments concerning the rights of victims of terrorism in criminal proceedings and in compensation schemes from a comparative perspective between France, Belgium and Spain. His thesis is co-supervised by Sandrine Lefranc (CEE -Sciences Po/CNRS) and Liora Israël (Centre Maurice Halbwachs - EHESS/ENS/CNRS).
Research work
Francesco Nardone's research adopts an interdisciplinary approach, bringing together the sociology of law, political theory and comparative politics to question the growing role of victims in the public space and in judicial arenas. On the one hand, it investigates the connection between the political framing of victims of terrorism and the acceleration of public policies on compensation and access to criminal proceedings. On the other hand, it examines the multiple ways in which criminal justice and reparation systems are appropriated by actors (victims, legal professionals, associations) in a rapidly changing legal and legislative context.
