Heike Hanhörster studied spatial planning and gained her doctorate at the University of Dortmund. In 2013 she finished her dissertation titled “Should I stay or should I go? Locational decisions and coping strategies of Turkish homeowners in low-income neighbourhoods”. Since 2015, she holds a tenure-track position at ILS - Research Institute for Regional and Urban Development, Dortmund. Before, she stayed as a visiting scholar at OTB, Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment, TU Delft. 

Research interests 

  • social networks and encounters of (middle-class) households
  • social and spatial inequality
  • residential mobility of migrant groups
  • institutional discrimination and exclusionary processes on the housing market

  • New arrival spaces in Germany and France
  • Discrimination on the housing market
