Visiting PhD research fellow
Max Nagel is a third-year PhD research fellow at the Department of Political and Social Sciences, Scuola Normale Superiore. He has degrees in Financial Sociology (Goethe University Frankfurt) and International Economics (Bayreuth University), and conducted research and studies at Central European University, University of Pennsylvania, ISEG Lisbon School of Economics & Management, Vienna University of Economics & Business, and Weber State University. His research interests revolve around institutional change, global monetary and financial governance and comparative political economy.
In his dissertation he analyses how changes in the relation between politicians and experts affects institutional change. Conducting a comparative analysis of changes in monetary and financial governance in Argentina, Chile, South Korea and Japan, he argues that socio-historical knowledge explains both delegation of policymaking to experts as well as why we subsequently observe a different type of institutional change. This type of institutional change is prone to responsibility gaps.
