Research Interest(s): Political behaviour Comparative politics Sexism, feminism Gender and politics
Biography
In her thesis, Noémie explores how sexist attitudes influence political behaviour in Europe, with a particular focus on support for radical right-wing parties. Using the concept of relative sexism, she seeks to understand how individuals evaluate and express their own sexist opinions in relation to the dominant social norms of their group or context. This approach enables us to analyse the dynamics of perceived differences between oneself and others, and their effect on feelings of threat or devaluation, rather than focusing solely on absolute levels of sexism.
Drawing on a mixed methodology of comparative statistical analyses of survey data (European Values Study, European Social Survey), experimentation, and textual analysis, her research is rooted at the intersection of gender studies, political sociology, and the study of social norms. Noémie highlights the differential effects of sexism according to gender, age and social context, offering a fresh perspective on the politicisation of gender inequalities at the European level.
