At CEE, Pauliina Patana will be working on her dissertation project that seeks to explain variation in the recent rise and popularity of right-wing populist parties in Western Europe both at the subnational and cross-national levels. By developing an experimental survey and collecting quantitative and qualitative data on French voters and the Front National, Pauliina will investigate the conditions under which populist right-wing parties perform well in some local settings but not in others.
