Robert J. Sampson is the Henry Ford II Professor of the Social Sciences at Harvard University, founding director of the Boston Area Research Initiative, and Affiliated Research Professor at the American Bar Foundation. He was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 2008 and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the American Philosophical Society, and the American Academy of Political and Social Science. He served as President of the American Society of Criminology, and in 2011 he and his colleague John Laub received the Stockholm Prize in Criminology. In 2016, Professor Sampson was elected as Corresponding Fellow of the British Academy, and in 2018 he was appointed as a Fellow of the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation.
