Réjane Sénac
Réjane Sénac holds a PhD in political science with a specialization in political thought from Sciences Po Paris. She also holds a research Master’s degree in Law and a one-year Master’s in Philosophy from the University of Paris I - Panthéon Sorbonne.
Before joining the CEVIPOF as a CNRS research fellow in 2011, she was assigned to the Centre Maurice Halbwachs (EHESS, ENS) in 2007. Since 2017, she has been a CNRS Senior Researcher at the CEVIPOF. She was elected Head of the Political Science Department at Sciences Po in 2023. Since 2012, she has been a member of the steering committee of the PRESAGE research and teaching programme on gender and of the Scientific Council of the Cité du genre - USPC. She was president of the parity commission of the Haut Conseil à l'Egalité femmes-hommes, an advisory body to the Prime Minister (2013-2019).
Her research and teaching activities focus on contemporary expressions of the principle of equality through the prism of legitimate and illegitimate differentiation. To this end, she has analysed the principles of public justification of inclusion policies for those she describes as “non-brothers”, in particular the promotion of parity and diversity. She works on the synergies between contemporary mobilizations against injustice, in particular sexist, racist, social, ecological and speciesist injustices.
She has also published in various academic journals including Future, The Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies, Citizenship Studies, The Journal of Women, Politics & Policy, French Politics and the Revue Française de Science Politique. She has been a member of the editorial board of Politics & Gender at Cambridge University Press since 2022 and co-editor of the “Etudes de Genre” theme at the Presses de Sciences Po with Hélène Périvier and Rebecca Rogers since 2021.
