Thierry Vedel
Thierry Vedel is a CNRS-affiliated Senior Research Fellow at CEVIPOF-Sciences Po. His research interests cover the impact of the internet on political systems and democracy, the mutations of political communication in Western democracies, and the regulation of media in a globalized world.
His current research projects focus on the propagation of fake news from a reception perspective, the socio-political dimensions of Big Data and the “Slow Media” movement.
Thierry was the coordinator of the Mediapolis project "Political information and citizenship in a digital age" (French National Research Agency) and is involved in many international projects such as Mapping Digital Media (Open Society Foundation), the Media Pluralism Monitor (European Commission) and the Media Democracy Monitor (Euromedia group).
He teaches a course entitled Communication and Politics in the Age of Social Media (Sciences Po) and is a regular lecturer for Sciences Po Executive Education.
Thierry Vedel sits on the editorial boards of Information Polity, Policy & Internet, and Technologies de l’information et Société and is a member of the CESP scientific committee (an inter-professional organization which audits audience ratings). He co-founded the Electronic Democracy network (DEL) which brings together researchers working on democracy and the internet. He is an Associate Researcher with the Oxford internet Institute.
