Jan Verlin is an associate at the University of Lyon 3 Jean Moulin, a researcher at the Crisis-Lab of Sciences Po, and deputy director of the Geopolitical Risk Chair at the École Normale Supérieure.

He held postdoctoral research positions at the Centre for the Sociology of Organizations and the Centre for International Studies and Research at Sciences Po, where he worked on the representations of volcanic risk in overseas territories (ANR RAVEX and V-Care projects).

After studying political science at the Freie Universität Berlin and the Colegio de Mexico, he obtained his PhD in 2017 from Paris-Nanterre University with a dissertation on the management of humanitarian crises. His recent research focuses on crisis management in European overseas territories (ANR V-Care and SCIOUTPOST projects), public participation in crisis management (H2020 ENGAGE project), and the coordination of medical and non-medical teams in extreme situations within the French hospital system (ANR COMEXT project). He has taught at the University of Tours, St John’s University, Sorbonne Nouvelle University, Paris 8 University, Paris Lumière University, Nanterre University, Paris Nord University, and Sciences Po.
