Reiko Hasegawa
Reiko Hasegawa is a political scientist and jurist, specializing in forced migration and the protection of people following environmental (particularly nuclear) and humanitarian disasters.
She holds a master's degree in international relations (conflict analysis) from Carleton University (Norman Paterson School of International Affairs) in Canada, and a doctorate in public law from Université Jean Moulin - Lyon3, with a thesis on the protection of people following nuclear disasters. She has held Research Fellow positions at the Institut du Développement Durable et des Relations Internationales (IDDRI) and Médialab at Sciences Po, where she worked on the management of the 2011 Fukushima nuclear disaster, particularly around the issue of displacement (evacuation, return and resettlement) and immobility - “trapped” - of the population in the contaminated territory (ANR DEVAST project and Franco-Japanese SHINRAI project between IRSN/Sciences Po/TokyoTech).
Previously, she worked on humanitarian operations with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and a humanitarian NGO in Iraq, Kosovo, Sierra Leone, Slovenia, Indonesia and Japan.
