Globalisation, Competition, and the Transformation of German Universities since the 1970s
Le séminaire "Enseignement supérieur et recherche" accueille le jeudi 1er février 2024, Alexander Mayer, University of the Bundeswehr (PI of a DFG research project on 'A cultural history of meritocracy and social mobility, 1850-1975'). Le titre de son intervention :
Globalisation, Competition, and the Transformation of German Universities since the 1970s
Résumé :
Starting in 2005, the ‚Exzellenzinitiative‘, a government programme that aimed at creating a few globally competitive elite universities, marked a radical shift in the history of German universities. This presentation will analyse the causes of this shift, which can be traced back to the 1970s, and show how German universities have responded to new forms of competition by transforming themselves - not without conflict - into organisational actors.
Le séminaire prend la forme d'un webinaire de 12h30 à 14h.
