Portrait of Michal Bauer

Michal Bauer is Associate Professor (with tenure) at the Center for Economic Research and Graduate Education - Economics Institute (CERGE-EI) and a member of its Executive and Supervisory Committee since 2017. He is also Professor at CERGE, Charles University since 2024 and a Senior Researcher at the Economics Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences (EI). He is a Research Affiliate at the Institute of Economic Studies at Charles University, at the Institute of Labor Economics (IZA) and at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR).

His research spans behavioural economics, development economics and experimental economics. The unifying motivation is to shed light on “behavioural” mechanisms that may contribute to pressing social issues, including poverty, discrimination and violent inter-group conflicts. To do so, he conducts field experiments in relevant settings, often in disadvantaged communities. His research appeared in number of leading journals, including American Economic Review, Journal of Economic Perspectives, Nature and PNAS.

He will present a paper, joint with Julie Chytilová and Eric Ochieng, at the next Departmental Seminar on the topic:

Preference Transmission within Churches: Religious Leaders and Clusters of (In)Tolerance (read paper)

The next Departmental Seminar will host Dita ECKARDT (Warwick) on December 9th.
