Portrait of Nancy Qian

Nancy Qian is is the James J. O’Connor Professor of Economics at the Kellogg School of Management, MEDS Department of Northwestern University. Prior to joining Kellogg she was Associate Professor at Yale. She holds a PhD in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and was a Harvard Academy post-doctoral fellow at the Weatherhead Center for International Studies at Harvard University. She also co-directs the Global Poverty Research Lab (GPRL) at Northwestern and founded the China Econ Lab. She is a Fellow of the Econometric Society since 2022.

She is an empirical economist and research questions about economic development, political economy and economic history. She is particularly interested in long-run development, and the interplay between economics, geography, demography, politics and culture.
