Call for applications for the Jean-Paul FITOUSSI Doctoral Scholarship

A doctoral scholarship based on criteria of excellence and social criteria in honour of Jean-Paul Fitoussi:

A brilliant and committed economist, recognised by his peers internationally, respected and loved by generations of students, consulted and listened to by the highest political leaders, read and heard by a wide audience, Jean-Paul Fitoussi has been and will remain an eminent figure of our institution.

Jean-Paul Fitoussi's family has created a doctoral scholarship in his memory, embodying the values of the professor emeritus of Sciences Po and offering the most brilliant young researchers real encouragement in the pursuit of their academic careers. It also makes it possible to attract talent from all over the world, who would not be able to access this path of excellence without substantial financial assistance.

Eligibility

The Jean-Paul Fitoussi doctoral Scholarship is aimed at students admitted to the Sciences Po doctoral school in economics.

Coordinated by the Department of Economics at Sciences Po, it is awarded according to the criteria of excellence and merit in force at the institution and will particularly recognise young researchers committed to an academic career in the disciplines and footsteps of the great researcher, particularly in economics, political economy, philosophy, sociology and law. The Jean-Paul Fitoussi scholarship is intended to support research work in the field of economic theory and policy, to emphasise the role, importance and diversity of institutional arrangements and social norms, and to consider the relationship between democracy and the market. The specificities of European integration may be analysed. Possible topics include, but are not limited to: inequality, inflation, unemployment, political Europe, measuring well-being, etc.

Furthermore, in the spirit of one of the emblematic books by Jean-Paul Fitoussi, ‘le théorème du Lampadaire’, the stock exchange wishes to encourage research that is ‘far from the light’, either because the themes are little known or widespread, or because they go against the tide of ‘majority’ thinking.

Amount

The Jean-Paul Fitoussi doctoral scholarship is intended to cover all tuition fees as well as a contribution to the living expenses of a doctoral student for 3 years at Sciences Po (40,000 euros per year, during the 3 years of the doctoral school, i.e. 120k€ in total for one student).
