Michele Fioretti selected by the Stigler Center as new Affiliate Fellow

The George J. Stigler Center for the Study of the Economy and the State at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business designs, discusses, and disseminates ideas and research on political economy, the role of special interests, and the future of capitalism.

The Affiliate Fellow programme is a 3-year, non-resident appointment that seeks to strengthen and cultivate a multidisciplinary community of up-and-coming scholars worldwide working on political economy, regulatory capture, and competitive markets.

On June 20th, the Stigler Center announced the new fellows selected to their prestigious programme - among them the Department's permanent faculty member Michele Fioretti!

Michele Fioretti joined the Department in 2019 after completing his doctoral thesis at the University of Southern California. His research analyses market competition, particularly in contexts where firms internalise - or claim to internalise - their social and environmental impacts, as well as in relation to specific production technologies and value chains. He utilizes methodologies from the fields of industrial organisation, international trade, and corporate finance.

A very promising scholar, Michele has already been distinguished several times for his work: he was the recipient of the  Award for the Best Applied Economics Paper by a Young Researcher at the 2018 Econometric Society Summer European Meeting (EEA-ESEM Cologne), of the 2020 Best Policy Research Award at the INFER Conference, and in 2023 the Association Française de Science Économique (AFSE) awarded him the Prix Edmond Malinvaud.

He is currently working on a 2-year project related to governance problems in decentralized networks with the support of Liberty Project Institute (formerly McCourt Institute).

Congratulations Michele !
