PEPES Seminar - Sept 26th
Klaus Desmet is the Altshuler Professor of Cities, Regions and Globalization at Southern Methodist University (SMU). He is also a Research Fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) and a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER). Prior to joining SMU, he was Professor at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid where he remains an Associate Researcher. He also serves as a short-term consultant at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas since 2018 and sits on the Academic Advisory Council of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas since 2024.
His research focuses on regional economics, climate change, and political economy. His work has appeared in the American Economic Review, the Journal of Political Economy, the Journal of Economic Theory and the Journal of Development Economics. In 2019 he was the recipient of the Robert E. Lucas Jr. Prize and in 2010 he was awarded the August Lösch Prize.
He will present a paper, joint with Ignacio Ortuño-Ortín and Romain Wacziarg, at our first PEPES Seminar of the year on the topic:
