Gabriel Ahlfeldt

Gabriel AHLFELDT is Professor of Urban Economics and Land Development at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), in the Department of Geography and Environment. He is also a Research Fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR), an Associate at the Centre for Economic Performance (CEP), and a CESIfo Fellow. Among his editorial duties, he is the Editor of Regional Science and Urban Economics.

In his research, he is interested in how various agglomeration forces shape the spatial distribution of economic activity. His research also analyses the impact of various spatial policies on local house prices, labour markets, political preferences and urban structure. He publishes regularly in the best peer-reviewed journals. His work was honoured in 2020, when he was awarded a fellowship of the Weimer School at the Homer Hoyt Institute and in 2018, when he received the Econometric Society Frisch Medal Award for his paper “Economics of density: Evidence from the Berlin Wall (joint with Steve Redding, Daniel Sturm, Nikolaus Wolf).
