Chairs

The School of Public Affairs hosts several Chairs with public and private partners in order to develop research and academic programs on today's major political and social issues.

Digital, Governance and Sovereignty Chair

In a context of ever-accelerating digital innovation, the mission of the Digital, Governance and Sovereignty Chair is to create a unique forum to bring together tech companies, researchers, policymakers, civil society stakeholders, and public policy incubators as well as digital regulation experts.

Hosted by the School of Public Affairs, the Chair adopts a multidisciplinary and holistic approach to research and analyze the economic, legal, social, and institutional transformations brought by digital innovation.

The mass adoption of digital technologies brings up new political, economic, social, and ethical challenges. Long-lasting public policies, such as education, health, employment, security, as well as citizens’ daily lives must be thoroughly remodelled, at the local, national, and European levels.

In this context, the Digital, Governance and Sovereignty Chair‘s purpose is to contribute to the research on the following issues: Sovereignty issues, regulatory issues, democratic issues.

European Chair for Sustainable Development and Climate Transition

This chair is co-hosted with the Paris School of International Affairs.

The mission of the European Chair for Sustainable Development and Climate Transition is to advance education, innovation and public dialogue for the design and practice of policies for sustainable development and climate transition, within and outside of Europe. Challenges of climate change adaptation, decarbonisation, safeguarding planetary boundaries, green financing, biodiversity depletion and geopolitical environmental risks need to be understood and overcome in order to advance ambitions of the European Green Deal.

The Chair’s engagement has twin foci, social and green, as countries and companies plan to renew growth in the post-Covid-19 period. Clarifying the content and sequencing of policies, partnerships and actions for transformational pathways for territories and cities, balancing economic aspiration with social advancement and environmental protection for all, form the heart of the Chair’s engagement. The Chair aims to create a wide ecosystem of actors to stimulate research, teaching and dialogue around relevant themes such as territorial well-being and social inclusion, climate mitigation and adaptation, biodiversity conservation, and climate smart infrastructure. The chair seeks to promote exploration from economic, sociological, technological and humanist perspectives, beyond the constraints of traditional disciplines.

Public innovation chair

In order to address the major contemporary public policy challenges, public action in France and abroad is undergoing a strong transformation movement that has been mobilising new approaches for several years, based on social and political sciences, innovation and design, digital sciences and behavioural sciences.

Public action is thus experimenting with new forms to increase its capacity to innovate, accelerate its digital transformation, and accompany the emergence of new conceptions of public governance and democracy, in line with the expectations of citizens and society.

Created by ENSCI, ENA, Sciences Po and Ecole Polytechnique, the Public Innovation Chair aims to federate the research and training efforts of the four schools in the service of this transformation of public action. It aims to explore these new forms of public action and to support their development, in close interaction with its partners and alongside those who carry out public action on a daily basis.
