Doctor

Dr. Mohamed R. Abdelsalam earned his Ph.D. in Law (Docteur en Droit) in July 2022, under the supervision of Professor Guillaume Tusseau. His doctoral research offers a comparative analysis of the judicialization of religion, examining how constitutional Islamic Sharia principles intersect with international obligations in judicial practices.

Dr. Abdelsalam serves as a Judge at the Egyptian Council of State, a Lecturer in the University of London’s LLB International Programme (European Universities in Egypt), and an Expert Member of the African Union Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights.

He was previously a Fellow at Harvard University (2019–2020), a visiting researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law, and a Scholar at UNIDROIT.

Dr. Abdelsalam holds a bachelor’s degree in law with honors and a Master’s in Administrative Law from Ain Shams University, a Master’s in Rule of Law for Development from Loyola University Chicago, and a Diploma in International and Comparative Law from the American University in Cairo.

He teaches a range of legal subjects, including Comparative Constitutional Law, Human Rights, Law and Development, and International Arbitration.

Before joining the judiciary, Dr. Abdelsalam practiced law, focusing on arbitration, corporate law, and litigation, and served as a lecturer with the American Bar Association’s Rule of Law Initiative in Egypt.
