Esquirol, Jorge L.
AFFILIATE PROFESSOR
Jorge L. Esquirol is an affiliate professor at Sciences Po's School of Law, and a tenured professor at Florida International University College of Law in Miami (USA), where he was a founding member of the law faculty in 2002. He specializes in comparative and commercial law. Author of Ruling the Law: Legitimacy and Failure in Latin American Legal Systems, Cambridge University Press, 2019. Holder of the Fulbright Distinguished Chair of Comparative Law in Trento, Italy in 2016. He taught as Associate Professor at Northeastern University School of Law in Boston and was Director of Academic Affairs in the Graduate Program at Harvard Law School. He has also been a Visiting Research Professor at Brown University's Watson Institute, a Visiting Professor at the University of Miami School of Law, the University of Denver School of Law, a Visiting Scholar at the University of Paris X (Nanterre), France, and a Visiting Scholar at the Constitutional Court of Colombia. Professor Esquirol received his B.S.B.A. summa cum laude from Georgetown University, his J.D. from Harvard Law School, and his S.J.D. from Harvard Law School. He has served as a Law Clerk in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, and was an associate attorney at Shearman and Sterling in New York. Professor Esquirol is fluent in Spanish, French, Italian and Portuguese. He is the author of numerous publications in the fields of law and development, comparative law, property and commercial law.
