Eating Popcorn like a Lawyer: A Law and Film Seminar Series
In this first session of 2024, our guest Bianca Crivellini Eger, PhD candidate at HEC Paris, picked two short films to inspire a discussion on identity and gender body politics: Aban (2022) and Our Males and Females (2023).
The two short films portray the difficulties, the struggles, and the violence surrounding identity and gender body politics. Abbas Taheri’s Aban tells the story of an Iranian kid who dreams of a body that matches their mind. While Ahmad Alyaseer’s Our Males and Females, set in contemporary Jordan, shows the contradictions of tradition and religion, and the restrictive definitions that haunt and limit us even after our death. It seems that society, its categories, its obligations judge us constantly. These two films are the opportunity to ask such questions like ‘what are the laws that let us accept or reject something or someone?’ and ‘how do we look at the in-between?’
Popcorn will be served!
The conference takes place in room C. S25 (Sciences Po, 1 place Saint-Thomas d'Aquin, Paris 7ème).
