Emmanuel Gaillard (1952-2021)
In Memoriam

Emmanuel Gaillard was a Professor of Law at Sciences Po Law School since 2012 and a Visiting Professor of Law at Yale Law School and Harvard Law School. His vision on transnational arbitration inspired the creation of the LLM in Transnational Arbitration & Dispute Settlement of the Law School, in which he taught and presided over the LLM’s scientific advisory board. He also taught in the Master in International Dispute Settlement (MIDS) of the University of Geneva.

Doctor of law and agrégé de droit privé et sciences criminelles (1982), he was, from 1986 to 2012 professor at the University of Paris Est-Créteil where he taught international arbitration law and private international law.

A recognized practitioner of international arbitration law, he co-founded and chaired the Institute for International Arbitration (2001) and founded the International Academy for Arbitration Law (2011).

Emmanuel Gaillard devoted his teachings and his scholarship to transnational commercial and investment arbitration and private international law.
