PhD Candidate, Researcher
Omar Kamel is a Doctoral Researcher and Lecturer at the Sciences Po Law School in Paris, where he teaches public international law and armed conflicts. His PhD thesis, supervised by Professor Jean d’Aspremont, appraises the sway of media discourse on the laws of war, and the outcomes of armed conflicts in the Middle East.
Omar has previously lectured courses and research seminars at universities in France and Japan, such as Sciences Po Paris, Keio University, Meiji University, Waseda University, Hiroshima University, and Temple University.
He is also an organizer and moderator for the Private International Law as Global Governance (PILAGG) fortnightly research conference, on Law, Capitalism, and Crisis. He is currently collaborating with the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Adequate Housing, as a tutor of the Sciences Po Law School Clinic for the Human rights, Economic Development, and Globalization (HEDG) program. His previous contributions in civil and political rights at the Clinic include the UK & Canada Project on protecting Media Freedom from Counterterrorism and Public Order legislation, and the Tax Evasion and Environmental Corporate Accountability Project with the Sherpa Association.
His analysis of U.S. foreign policy and armed conflicts is frequently relayed on French and Arabic media networks, such as the Radio France Internationale (Radio Monte Carlo), and Radio Méditerranée Internationale.
University studies:
Omar holds a Master’s in Law from the Sciences Po Law School, specializing in International Law & Global Governance. He also holds a Bachelor’s in Political Science and International Law, with a focus on the Middle East and North Africa. He was an Aitchison Fellow for Public Policy at Johns Hopkins University.
