Comparative Law in Action Competition: Congratulations to Sciences Po Law School team
Congratulations to Hawa Dallio, Marissa Sterling, François Solis, Gaëlle Barruso, Krystof Stupka and Liora Ansellem, students from the Sciences Po Law School, who reached the finals of the Comparative Law in Action Competition.
We were extremely happy and proud to participate in the Comparative Law in Action Competition. Under the guidance of Professor Beatriz Botero Arcila, we adopted a work rhythm based on a weekly work session and personal research for several months.
In Madrid, we made it to the finals of the competition after two rounds of elimination. Our argument, in front of the executive board of the fake dating app LoveNow - and actually in front of members of legal departments and lawyers - was not so much about saying what we thought was the state of the law on the issues raised by the case but rather about anticipating the litigation risk for this company. This was a new exercise, a real challenge that helped sharpen our critical thinking skills, and that led us to delve into European and Spanish law.
Moreover, the particularity of this competition lies in the permanent updating of the information available on the practical case until the submission of the brief, a few days before the oral phases. This forced us to adapt, just like in real life. All this made things more difficult, but also much more interesting and lively!
To those who wish to participate in the next edition, we strongly advise you to highlight the strengths of each participant. One should not look for uniformity in the oratory style, but for group cohesion and coherence of answers in front of an often destabilizing jury.
