"Women’s Participation in Constitution-Making: Cases from MENA” Course Represents Sciences Po Law School at the Sixth Edition of International IDEA’s “Women Constitutional Makers Dialogue” in The Hague
Two first-year master’s students in Economic Law, Tatiana Van den Haute and Clémence Roy, from the course were selected to accompany Sanaa Alsarghali, visiting professor at Sciences Po Law School from An-Najah National University and a member of the Palestinian constitutional drafting committee, to participate in this high-level event organized by the intergovernmental organization International IDEA.
The event, which is considered the only peer-to-peer exchange dialogue for women involved in constitution-making, particularly drafters, took place, as usual, in The Hague. This year, the dialogue focused on the theme of independent and ad hoc institutions and their role in strengthening democracy.
International IDEA extended this invitation to two Sciences Po students as part of this year’s dialogue. The invitation recognized the shared endeavor between International IDEA and Sciences Po Law School, particularly through the course “Women’s Participation in Constitution-Making: Cases from MENA,” in centering women’s voices in constitution-making.
The students engaged in conversations with constitutional drafters from countries such as Nepal, Kenya, South Africa, and Sri Lanka, among others. They spent two days learning about the topic and participating in discussions shaping constitutional building in various countries.
As invited speaker Prof. Dr Alsarghali provided talks focusing on current institutions and the constitutional design options for the “Day After” in Palestine.
