Zois, Christos

PhD Candidate, Researcher

Christos Zois is a PhD candidate at Sciences Po Law School, working under the supervision of Professor Alain Pottage. His research tries to unravel the role of temporality, especially futurity, narratives in international climate change law by focusing on the legal foundations of the rights of future generations. By discussing the -traditionally invisible- role of time as international law device, his research will explore how the future generations’ discourse perpetuates oppressive legalities while excluding other alternative/marginalised legal approaches.

Christos holds a Master in International Law from the Geneva Graduate Institute (2024), a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in International and European Legal Studies with a concentration on Public International Law from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2022) and a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2020). He has been a Legal Assistant to the International Law Commission since 2022 focusing on sea-level rise in international law and state succession in international responsibility and was the main researcher of the Jean Monnet Project EURIS of the Kalliopi Koufa Foundation for the Promotion of International and Human Rights Law, focusing on the responsibility of the European Union under various areas of international law.

His main research interests include general public international law, with an emphasis on subjects and sources of international law, international environmental and climate change law, the rights of nature in the Anthropocene, legal theory, subaltern and socio-legal approaches to international law and international human rights law.

Provisional thesis title: Futurity narratives in international climate change law: Deciphering the rights of 'future generations'.
