Eating Popcorn like a Lawyer: A Law and Film Seminar Series

For this spring screening, the law and film team invites you to an epic poem of images and music, the 1980s cult by Godfrey Reggio: Koyaanisqatsi, Life out of balance (1982).

Nowadays life has become a difficult balance between peace and war, nature and humankind, water and fire. Until recently, the world travelled at the speed of light reaching the unreachable without asking any questions: technology, connectivity,  ransportation, science, progress. However, life seems to be more and more out of balance. Godfrey Reggio’s film captures these instabilities through a perfect combination of images and music where the spectator need only dive into a rapid and dialogue-less narration.

Consequently, legal scholars address topics such as the Anthropocene, law and technologies, business and human rights, conflicts and international law. In contrast, at least in this occasion, the law and film club invites PhDs and faculty to stop talking and just watch. This invitation aims to push us, as legal scholars, to reflect on our relation with the visual and musical aspects of what we discuss in our everyday work life.
