LAW AND METHODS SEMINAR

INVITED GUEST: Professor Beatriz Botero Arcila

 Beatriz Botero Arcila

Will Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) take all the jobs? It won't, most likely. But how does technology matter? And can/does law play a role in shaping the trajectory of technological development?

During this session,  we will explore how legal scholars participate in debates on the form of the digital environment by showing how the legal system contributes to shaping it, but also, that technologies can have distributive effects of their own. Working with the complex interaction of these two premises stands in opposition to narratives that state that digital technologies - like the internet or AI - are lawless or developed in the absence of the law. In some of my recent work, I am thinking about the role of law in shaping and regulating AI and what it means to also take seriously that some features of AI may be, well, very new. How does the law deal with that? I hope to have that conversation with you in this session.

The conference takes place in room 410T (13, rue de l'Université) and online.

Invite-only event.
