Call for 2 double culture PhD Fellowships at Sciences Po

I. Context

Université Paris Cité and Sciences Po are part of a strategic partnership whose purpose is to develop collaborations aimed at enriching their scientific and educational offerings.

Université Paris Cité is also a partner in the ExcellencES TIERED project, coordinated by Sciences Po, which invites the two institutions to share the following objectives :

  • To affirm the necessary contribution of social sciences and humanities to the understanding of environmental and digital transitions and their political, social, economic, legal and cultural consequences;
     
  • Actively seek complementarities between the SHS and other scientific disciplines.

II. Positions

2 PhD fellowships are opened at Sciences Po within the Sciences Po - Université Paris Cité partnership. The fellowships will be co-supervised by codirectors from Sciences Po and Université Paris Cité.

The applications should target any of the 5 Sciences Po PhD programmes in Economics, History, Law, Political Science or Sociology. They must also include a complementary discipline to reflect the double culture approach.

Applicants may propose a project associating the humanities and social sciences with another field (e.g. natural or computational sciences), or two different fields of the humanities and social sciences.

All themes are open, but a focus on environmental and digital transformations topics will be appreciated.

Each selected candidate will be employed by Sciences Po within one of its 10 research centres where he/she will conduct his/her research. He/she will be required to enrol in the PhD training programme both at Sciences Po School of Research and at his/her host research centre.

 

III. Requirements
 

We seek motivated researchers who hold a Master’s degree in Economics, History, Law, Political Science or Sociology and possess excellent empirical and theoretical skills, as well as good teamwork abilities. Proficiency in English is a requirement.
Candidates must explain their interest for an interdisciplinary approach.

IV. APPLICATION PROCEDURE

The application must be submitted online, according to the Admissions conditions and calendar of Sciences Po. Applications can be submitted in English or French.

The application must include the following documents:

  • Two academic references (an optional professional reference may be added)
  • Copy of identity document
  • Letter of motivation
  • Outline of ideas for doctoral project (2,000-3,000 words)
  • Copy of Bachelor's and Master's degrees (if already obtained). For candidates in the process of obtaining the degree requested, please attach all transcripts available at the time of your application.
  • CV with a full summary of education, academic and non-academic work experience, language skills and other extra-curricular activities. The period during which the Master's programme was followed must be specified (from admission to graduation).
  • Where applicable: up to two pieces of academic research (such as a master's thesis or published articles).

Applications will be ranked, submitted to and assessed by the Sciences Po School of Research.
