Call for applications for the doctoral contract “DIPLOMATICA”

Le Ministère de l’Europe et des affaires étrangères ainsi que Sciences Po lancent un appel à candidature pour un contrat doctoral « DIPLOMATICA ».

The Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and Sciences Po are launching a call for the doctoral contract “DIPLOMATICA”. This doctoral scholarship will focus on the study of diplomatic practices in France and/or in the rest of the world. The aim is to encourage a young researcher to work on contemporary diplomatic practices and to analyze the implications of diplomacy on the conduct of international relations and the functioning of the state.

Working context

The successful candidate will be enrolled in a doctoral program in political science at Sciences Po Paris. He or she will be attached to the Center for International Studies (CERI), or another research center depending on the subject.

Profile

The candidate should have a Master degree in social sciences (history, anthropology, sociology, political science) and must not be already enrolled in a PhD program at the time of application.

The doctoral thesis may be written in French or English.

Conditions

The admitted doctoral student will sign a doctoral contract granting 2045 euros gross per month for a period of three years, from 1 October 2023 to 30 September 2026. The doctoral contract is funded by the MEAE.

The doctoral student will conduct his/her research in a research unit of Sciences Po in Paris, France.

Conditions for applying to the doctoral program at Sciences Po.

The candidate must include the following documents in your application file application:

  • Choice for the international relations doctoral programme;
  • A research proposal in PDF or Word format (2,000 to 5,000 words maximum);
  • A summary of the thesis proposal (2 pages) in PDF or Word format;
  • A CV;
  • A copy of identity document;
  • Master 1 grades, and if already available, Master 2 grades;
  • A PDF copy of the Master 2 thesis if it has been completed;
  • Two letters of recommendation.

Deadline

The application must be sent before midnight on 18 May 2023 midnight.

The candidate will be invited to a zoom interview conducted by a committee composed of professors of the International Relations Program at the Ecole de la Recherche, as well as a representative of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
