Interview with Jan MAZZA, PhD candidate in Economics
Jan MAZZA, PhD candidate in Economics, European University Institute :
“The course was extremely well structured and significantly enhanced my Julia skills…”
I am a second year PhD candidate in economics at the European University Institute in Florence, Italy. My main research interests lie in household finance, macro-finance, political economy and text analysis.
I decided to enroll in Numerical Methods at Sciences Po because its syllabus seemed to offer a wide, state-of-the-art introduction to Julia, a programming language I had a very basic knowledge of but was interested in learning. The choice proved correct: the course was extremely well structured and significantly enhanced my Julia skills. The course material will also remain useful in the years to come as a reference for any specific problem I will have to face during my research.
As such, my experience was very positive and I would definitely recommend it to other students. It is a way to learn new methods, interact with different teaching styles and ultimately broaden one's research horizons.
