Apprenticeship programmes at the Urban School
Apprenticeships combine in-company training with academic courses delivered as part of our programmes. They offer a unique opportunity to build skills, gain experience, and effectively prepare for the world of work.
Apprenticeships are available in the second year of the Master Regional and Urban Strategy (STU) and Governing Ecological Transitions in Cities (GETIC) Master's programmes.
This programme is offered in partnership with CFA Formasup.
Why choose apprenticeship?
A dual training system
Apprenticeships offer dual integration: students benefit from academic teaching and support from the Urban School while immersing themselves fully in the host organisation to gain initial professional experience.
Financed and paid studies
The employer pays tuition fees. Throughout your contract, you receive a monthly salary, which gives you financial independence.
Rewarding professional experience
You will be given concrete tasks and responsibilities in the company, enabling you to rapidly acquire operational skills. This contract can be a stepping stone to permanent recruitment, helping you enter the job market.
The pace of learning
Apprenticeships are available in the second year after completing the first year of full-time training at the Urban School. In the second year, training alternates between the School and the host organisation, with two or three days at the company and two or three days at Sciences Po, depending on the semester.
Outside their course periods, apprentices work full-time for their employer.
The recommended duration of the contract is a minimum of 12 months. The contract must be signed between August and September of the current year. We strongly recommend that you start the contract before the start of your course.
How do I become an apprentice?
The apprenticeship contract is reserved for applicants under 30 and gives them the apprentice status.
No specific work visa is required if you are a French national or a citizen of the European Union.
Foreign students from countries outside the European Union (except Algerian nationals) who hold a student residence permit can now sign an apprenticeship contract and do not need to apply for a temporary work permit (APT).
Students indicate their wish to follow the 2nd year of the apprenticeship programme during the 1st year at the end of the 1st semester. Students are asked to give a short presentation of their career plans and their motivation to check that the apprenticeship programme suits them. If necessary, an interview with the Master's course leader may be arranged. Only those students selected will be authorised to apply for an apprenticeship contract.
