Children at the Door, the Short Film That Won an Award on Menton Campus

From 22 to 26 January 2024, Sciences Po's Menton Campus - which hosts the Mediterranean and Middle East minor, held its 10th Winter School.

Sponsored and supported by Monaco's Department of International Cooperation, the Winter School raises students' awareness of international solidarity and rights in the Mediterranean region. Since the very first event, almost 1,500 students on the Menton Campus have been made aware of these issues.

In 2024, the Winter School was dedicated to the various aspects of humanitarian law. The 181 participating students alternated between theory and practice. The week began with two days of lectures, and was followed by three days of collaborative work. The students were divided into different teams to focus on humanitarian rights issues: children, food, refugees, women/girls and people with disabilities.

The winner of this year's competition was Children at the Door, a 4-minute short film on the rights of children and refugees. It was made in 48 hours by first-year students: Adam Radwan, Aïtana Rifaee, Asya Yerlikaya, Boldizsar Racz, Chloé Leclerc, Côme Renault-Levet, Landon Roesch, Mattéo Tanouni-Nardelli, Osman Senefe, Sarah Saib and Victor Olivier. Their team “Hope for Children” won a 3,000 euros prize to donate to the UNRWA in Lebanon.
 

Youssef Halaoua, Director of Menton Campus, stated, "It was difficult for the jury to make a decision between the five finalist videos. In the end, we chose Children at the Door. In such a short time, the group of students managed to come up with a stunning short film, in terms of narrative quality, sound and image capture, interviews and editing. Congratulations to them and thank you to Monaco's Department of International Cooperation for its invaluable support and loyalty to Sciences Po's campus in Menton over the past ten years".
