An Empowerment Programme for the Women of the Mediterranean

The closing ceremony of the new Women of the Mediterranean programme was held at Sciences Po on Friday, 12 June 2015, attended by the sponsor of the class of 2015, Elisabeth Guigou. Women of the Mediterranean is a unique course created by Sciences Po and Presage, Sciences Po's gender studies programme, with support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Social Affairs, Health and Women’s Rights, and the Union for the Mediterranean.

The Women of the Mediterranean programme is designed to develop the skills of young women involved in promoting gender equality in Mediterranean countries. Over successive years, former participants of the two-week programme will build a dynamic network of gender-parity advocates across Europe and the Southern Mediterranean countries.

The class of 2015 brought together about twenty women aged from 25 to 35 and hailing from Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco and Turkey. These participants were selected on the basis of their career path and their commitment to promoting gender equality in their professional field. As Sciences Po researcher Maxime Forest underscored, “they are already leaders.”
