How Did the Covid-19 Crisis Affect Energy Poverty?: CERI Researchers Share Their Findings

In the context of the health crisis brought on by Covid-19, in which a series of lockdowns led to a rise in energy prices and put increasing strain on low-income households, researchers from Sciences Po’s Center for International Studies (CERI) have been studying its continued effects on energy poverty on a European level in the context of the Energy and Cohesion: Governance, Regulations and Negotiations (FR) research group.

In the following interview initially published on CERI’s website, scientific coordinators of the project François Bafoil, Ferenc Fodor and Rachel Guyet, explore this issue, diving into the effects that the Covid-19 crisis has had and proposing possible solutions.

From the question of redistribution of wealth to the role of governmental structures in providing social protections and regulations, as well as an acknowledgement of the need for social acceptance from citizens themselves, the researchers provide a glimpse of their ongoing investigation into energy inequalities.
