Indian Administrative Service Officers trained at Sciences Po

Since 2014, Sciences Po has offered Indian Administrative Service (IAS) Officers a custom training programme in which they discover French and European public policy. It is an opportunity for these civil servants to compare Indian systems of policy and decision-making with those of another culture, through the methods specific to Sciences Po.

The Indian government requires IAS Officers aiming for senior positions to complete a mid-career training programme. The Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA), where civil servants are trained, chose Sciences Po Executive Education to give these professionals a complementary perspective through experience of the public sector in France and Europe. For two days in Brussels, participants explore the European approach to public affairs from the angle of diversity. They then focus on the Franco-European management of public affairs over five days in Paris.

Learning from another model

Through seminars and workshops, this cross-disciplinary programme draws on social sciences to address a wide range of public sector issues, such as transportation, urban planning and sustainable development.

After completing the programme, IAS Officers are able to capitalize on lessons learned from examples of French and European policies – both successful and ineffective – and leverage a broader frame of analysis for defining their own policy.
