Paris Peace Forum 2024: Searching for a Functioning Global Order
Sciences Po was one of the founding member of the first edition of the Paris Peace Forum in 2018. Since then, it has always taken part in every edition of a summit that brings together leaders, decision-makers, and activists from around the world to address the most pressing issues of our time.
A summit to reshape international governance
The 2024 edition takes place on 11 and 12 November on the theme “Wanted: A Functioning Global Order”. Its main focus is to tackle the urgent need for effective international governance in a world marked by great power rivalries, global instability, North-South distrust and new transnational challenges.
Less than a week after the Donald Trump election, shortly after the UN Summit of the Future, just before the G20 in Rio and COP in Baku, the summit will convene discussions with all relevant actors on how to address urgent violent conflicts, from the war in Ukraine through the situation in the Middle East, Central Africa, and the Horn of Africa.
Four main topics will be addressed:
- Peace, Geopolitics and Multilateralism;
- Inequalities and SDSs;
- Climate and Environment;
- Digital World.
On 11 November, a one-day opening event will be held at Palais de Chaillot, and will feature a series of panels, roundtable discussions, and collaborative sessions. It will be followed the next day by a series of thematic side events throughout Paris, including a series of events on AI, digital governance and international cooperation hosted at Sciences Po.
The Paris School of International Affairs: hands on deck at the Paris Peace Forum
Every year, Sciences Po School of International Affairs (PSIA) students are the official volunteers of the summit. This year, 80+ student will be present at Palais de Chaillot to attend the event in one of the 11 different volunteer roles, from Greeters to Note Takers.
Arancha González, Dean of PSIA, will also be one of the key speakers of the opening day, on the theme of AI governance. As such, she also took part in a Paris Peace Forum video podcast (in French below):
Last but not least, the Sciences Po official side event “On the Road to AI Summit” has been organised by PSIA Tech & Global Affairs Innovation Hub. Paris Peace Forum attendees and Sciences Po communities will be invited to a series of roundtables, workshops, and conferences gathering leading experts. A wide range of topics will be covered, such as digital infrastructure, cooperative AI governance, responsible AI, empowering youth, disinformation, and public knowledge-sharing.
