Researchers from all over the world

Since 2008, around a hundred new researchers have joined Sciences Po’s research units.
Meet the fifteen researchers and professors who joined us in 2015 (since September). Be they British, French, Indian or Italian, they all have a high level of expertise.


In law
 
● University professor and former holder of the chair in European law at the European University Institute in Florence, Loïc Azoulai (Fr) joined the Law School. He also holds a chair of excellence at Paris Sorbonne Cité. His work focuses on the relations between institutional Europe, its achievements, its law and the individuals they affect.
 
● University professor and former dean of the University of Savoy Law School, Sébastien Pimont (Fr) is an expert in contract law. His research focuses on the law of obligations, consumer law and property law, as well as legal education and more broadly legal theory.
 
In economics
 
● A recent PhD graduate from the College of London, Florian Oswald (Fr) joined the Department of Economics as Assistant Professor. He uses an applied approach to microeconomics to study issues linked to labour economics, consumption and housing.
 
● CNRS research director and former director of the CREST Micro-econometrics Laboratory, Denis Fougère (Fr) (Pdf) joined the Sociological Observatory of Change and the LIEPP. The quality of his work earned him a CNRS bronze medal in 1994 and the Hicks-Tinbergen medal from the European Economic Association in 2010. His work focuses on labour and educational economics as well as assessment methods.
 
In history
 
● University professor and former CNRS researcher at the School of Advanced Studies in Social Sciences, Alain Chatriot (Fr) joined the Centre for History. He was awarded a CNRS bronze medal in 2009 recognizing the quality of his work. His conducts research in political, social and economic history. He especially focuses on the history of the state, the administration and economic and social policies. 
 
● CNRS research director and former researcher at the School of Advanced Studies in Social Sciences, Marie-Emmanuelle Chessel (Fr) joined the Centre for the Sociology of Organizations. She was awarded a CNRS silver medal in 2014 recognizing the originality and quality of her research on the consumer society and the relationships between religion and the economic world.
 
● Historian of politics and international relations, Sabine Dullin (Fr) joined the Centre for History. She is considered one of the top experts in the 20th century history of Russia and Eastern Europe. Her current research focuses on the history of border policies and practices.   
 
In political science

 
● CNRS research director Philippe Bezes (Fr) joined the Centre for European Studies. Awarded a CNRS bronze medal in 2014, he is an expert in bureaucracies, the state, and administrative reform. His research focuses on the sociology of government agencies and the changes that affect them.   
● CNRS research fellow Hélène Le Bail (Fr)(Pdf) joined the CERI after completing a thesis on Japan. An expert on Asia and more specifically intra-Asian migration, she focuses on Chinese immigration in Japan, marriage migration and Japanese initiatives to support foreigners.
● CNRS research fellow Hélène Thiollet (Fr) joined the CERI after conducting research at Oxford and the International Migration Institute. An expert in international migration, especially from countries of the South, she focuses on this issue’s various aspects: public policies, international relations, global governance, international law, development aid, etc.   
 
In sociology
 
● University professor Carlo Barone (Pdf), formerly affiliated with the University of Trento, joined the Sociological Observatory of Change. His research focuses on inequalities, whether they stem from the social environment, gender or culture. He is especially interested in their impact on education, which he studies with an intra-European comparative approach.    
 
● A former researcher at Oxford, where he still teaches, Emanuele Ferragina joined the Sociological Observatory of Change and the LIEPP as Assistant Professor. His research focuses on social policies, especially those that affect daily life: family, education, labour market integration, etc. He is especially interested in the drivers of social capital and socialisation.
 
● A PhD graduate from Brown University, Sukriti Issar joined the Sociological Observatory of Change as Assistant Professor. An expert in political economy and institutional transformation, she also focuses on urban governance issues and has worked on the city of Mumbai. 
 
● University professor Jérôme Pélisse (Pdf) joined the Centre for the Sociology of Organizations after serving as research professor at the University of Versailles Saint Quentin en Yvelines, where he held a CNRS chair of excellence and led the Printemps laboratory. He studies processes shaping the transfer and appropriation of rights in organizations, as well as relations to the law in the workplace.    
 
In urbanism
● An expert in city policies and urbanism, Marco Cremaschi (Fr) joined the Centre for European Studies and Urban School, where he leads the “Urbanism” section, in April 2015. A leading theoretician, Marco Cremaschi is also a field researcher. His work focuses on the innovative dimensions of urban planning.
