Transatlantic Partnership : 20th Anniversary of the Alliance Programme
The Alliance Program, which brings together four leading higher education institutions – Columbia University, Ecole Polytechnique, Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, and Sciences Po –, is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2023.
An academic platform of French-American dialogue
Alliance was created thanks to the support of the French Ministry of European and Foreign Affairs and its endowment is now worth million of dollars. This program is unique among academic transatlantic collaborations. Since its creation, it placed universities at the heart of French-American relations, benefitting thousands of students and hundreds of professors, researchers and doctoral students, as well as a broader public, by becoming a major platform of French-American dialogue.
Alliance's achievements
Some of the achievements of the Alliance Program include:
- Several dual diplomas bringing together Sciences Po and Columbia University, both at the Master’s level (public policy, international relations, law, and journalism), at the PhD level (political science), and at the Bachelor level, with the internationally renowned “Dual BA” and its annual graduating cohort of over 120 students.
- A Global Degree in Engineering, offering an integrated BS degree from Ecole Polytechnique and MS degree from Columbia, will be launched in 2024,
- Over 500 doctoral students crossed the Atlantic over the last 20 years in order to pursue their research in one of the Alliance partner institutions,
- Several hundreds of joint projects brought together French and American researchers, who leveraged their expertise in a diversity of areas, from climate change to bioengineering, from international relations and art history to AI and the future of democracy,
- 1,500 seminars and academic events bringing together tens of thousands of researchers in Paris, New York and beyond.
